North Walsham Emergency Grant Fund needs you !
North Walsham Community Shop and North Walsham Phoenix Group Working together for the community
We’ve seen 500,000 people have volunteered to help the NHS with deliveries of food and medicine to the 1.5 million considered at risk to the Coronavirus.
Many others of you will want to help in some way from home. There is a way you can help your local community, make a cash donation here!
The North Walsham Community Shop and The North Walsham Phoenix Group have established a supporting emergency grant fund for those who live in North Walsham and are facing financial hardship during the Coronavirus pandemic. Both of our organisations were established to support our community, but it is equally important that the community of North Walsham helps to support itself and for everyone to be supporting each other, family, friends and neighbours in our time of need.
The Community Shop will use its grant giving track record and charitable governance to allocate funds to North Walsham Phoenix Group to be distributed to the individuals who are in need the most, right now. For us to try and assess everyone’s needs within the community would take too long to be effective and meet the needs of those in hardship here and now. To speed up the process we will be reaching out to those groups that are already out in the community helping those affected.
By working with groups such as the Good Neighbours Scheme, Citizens Advice Bureau, Trussel Trust’s foodbank, and others, we will work on a referral basis so that any of these groups can refer an individual to us, who will then receive a one-time supporting grant to be used to help them cover the essential items they need.
A grants committee will be formed to have the final say on the release of any grants. This committee will be made up of the following Trustees of the two organisations:
- Jon Witte – Community Shop and Phoenix Group
- Mal Gray – Community Shop and Phoenix Group
- Paul Oakes – Phoenix Group
- Bob Wright – Community Shop and Phoenix Group
The whole process will of course be totally transparent and the privacy of those referred will be respected and paramount at every point of the process.
How you can help
To help all those in need in our town will depend largely on being able to generate and secure funding to be able to provide supporting grants. This is where you can do your bit to help our community and show a united front in this crisis. The Community Shop has already granted £1,000 to kick off this fund.
Please donate what you can afford to the North Walsham Emergency Grant Fund. That way everyone can feel they have actively helped, and that are all committed to working together as one community, getting through this devastating Coronavirus pandemic together.
We are setting up a JustGiving page so that everyone who would like to donate, can donate. No matter the amount it will all help to make a huge difference to those that need it the most. We know we will not be able to support everyone, but we will be doing our best to support as many people as we can during this difficult time. But none of that will be possible without the support of our fantastic community, helping us to support the community.
This crisis is going to be with us for a long time and our community will continue to need help. If you would like to set up a temporary Standing Order, then that will help the emergency grants to continue too. If you can help in this way, the Community Shop’s details are Sort Code 77-66-07 Account 25156168 (ref Covid) please give what you can and let’s all help each other – every step of the way together.
